Why we concentrate on Google Search Optimization (and ignore other search engines)
At the moment (Jan 2009) Syncrony’s Search Engine Optimization (SEO) efforts are concentrated solely on achieving the best search results for the Google Search Engine.
Why Concentrate on Google?
Simple answer, Google’s market share for ALL worldwide searches in late 2008 is reported at between 60% and 80%. The next closest competitor is Yahoo! which has about 10% to 20% of the global search market. The 3rd biggest is MSN which probably a maximum market share of 5%.

ComScore has Google at 61.6% in April 2008. http://www.comscore.com/press/release.asp?press=2230
Thus we believe that it makes good commercial sense to concentrate on Google because that way we target around 70% of the market and by following good web design and SEO practices we can be pretty sure that we will still be doing things that the other search engines will appreciate.
Thus our thinking goes that in order to ensure maximum search engine exposure for a Syncrony client’s website we must:
· Concentrate on Google
· We must use optimization techniques that target Google wherever possible
· We must always follow Best Practice in the development of web pages to enure that all search engines “like” our pages.
