25 Years of Syncrony — and 25 Years of Expertise in Building Online Stores and Custom Software
Syncrony was founded in 1999 with a clear mission: to create a content management system that empowered our clients to easily manage their own website content. Back then, making anything work online was an achievement — our first CMS ran through a Windows application that pushed content to the web via a complex process. It would have been impossible to imagine that by 2017, deploying a CMS would be so effortless that more than 50,000 WordPress websites would launch every day.
By 2003, we shifted from our in-house CMS to an open-source Microsoft-based platform that evolved into DotNetNuke (DNN). It proved to be the right choice — DNN became a widely adopted global standard for Microsoft CMS platforms. Over the next decade, we built exceptional websites for organisations such as Stefanutti Stocks, CCMA, AGSA, and Bonitas. DNN also became the backbone for major long-term custom systems for YUM Foods (KFC) and Famous Brands — solutions they still rely on today, more than 15 years later.
As technology evolved, so did we. In 2017, we began transitioning to more modern platforms, aligning our development with the future of web and enterprise software.
20+ Years of E-Commerce Expertise
Our e-commerce journey began in 2005 with a custom-built online store platform developed in ASP.NET. Our first live store sold Bose electronics and later powered several other projects, including a high-traffic daily deals website generating over R1 million in monthly turnover.
In 2013, we expanded our capabilities to include Magento — and it quickly became a core part of our offering. Over the years, we have developed extensive expertise in Magento design, development, customisation, extension creation, and specialised hosting. This foundation has enabled us to deliver powerful, scalable online retail experiences across multiple industries.
BoardCloud — Designed, Built and Evolved by Syncrony
BoardCloud was originally developed for Fidelity Services Group and has been in successful operation since 2016. Built on the latest Microsoft .NET Core framework, it stands as one of the most modern, robust, and secure board portal platforms available today.
During the COVID-19 lockdown, we made the strategic decision to evolve BoardCloud into a full commercial product. Since then, we have invested more than R5 million into its development, focusing on performance, security, usability, and features that truly empower boards.
At a time when South African companies face increasing pressure from dollar-based software licensing costs, a locally developed and supported board portal offers tremendous value. Today, BoardCloud is used not only across South Africa but also in the UK, USA, Canada, and various regions of Africa.
